Fire season started

Hot, windy conditions are fanning a large destructive bushfire near Ballarat as Victorian authorities warn of another day of extreme fire conditions across the state.

The CFA (Country Fire Authority) confirmed there had been properties lost in the blaze at Scotsburn, near Bunninyong yesterday, however have not yet determined how many.

The fire has grown to 3,900 hectares this wmorning, fuelled by very hot winds last night.

It is moving towards the towns of Mt Mercer and Grenville and more fire crews are joining the fight this morning.

A Watch and Act is also in place for Mount Doran, Elaine, Clarendon and Scotsburn.

On the ABC news online site this morning the CFA's Graeme Baxter said the winds should move the fire away from the towns but he said it would also create difficult conditions for firefighters.

"There will be a wind change around midday which will push the fire away from the townships, however we do want to make sure people are taking care and keeping a check on the conditions outside."

As I write this I can hear water bombing helicopters flying overhead. yesterday was a 40+ degree day in Ballarat and today will be the same. In fact yesterday reminded me a lot of the weather we had on 'Black Saturday' ( very hot, dusty and very windy) I'll have to keep an eye on things at Glen Park. Download the free CFA app if you haven't already done so. ( Photo below from the ABC)
